What kind of spikes does exist?

Spikes exist in different shapes and sizes. We offer allround spikes that you can use for almost every discipline, or you can choose a particular spike for a specific discipline. Beside the track spikes, we also have cross-country spikes in our assortment.

Cross-country spikes

Do you like to indulge in the mud on the field? Then you need a pair of cross spikes. These spikes don't have a stiff plate underneath, because you have to push yourself forward in the mud. That asks for a somewhat flexible, supple shoe. But instead of a full-length plate, they have a plate to attach the spike pins. The profile of the outsole is also more durable than that of track spikes, and has grooves to tackle the mud.

Track spikes

Among the track spikes, we distinguish different types. For every discipline, you need a spike with its own features. And to choose carefully, you have to take your performance level and experience in mind, too.

Sprint spikes are made to go fast on the short distance races on the track, up to 400 meters. The spike plate is mostly longer, over the full-length of the shoe. It also has less cushioning, because the spike preferably weights as less as possible. Your feet experience less comfort, but you won't miss that for the shorter distances.

Long distance spikes are meant for the middle and long distance races on the track, going from 800 meters. The big difference with sprint spikes is the shorter spike plate and better cushioning. Your feet wil experience more comfort.

Jump spikes include spikes for long jump, high jump, triple jump, and pole vault. They are made for an explosive push-off and stable run towards your jump.

Throwing spikes include spikes for javelin, shot put, discus and hammer throw. These last two are characterized by a smooth surface for an easy turn.

Spike pins

What most spikes have in common, are the spike pins underneath. These have a very important job, namely giving you the power and traction. The amount of pins and the length depends on the discipline and surface.

Do you have spikes with replaceable pins? Than you can easily remove one when it's broken. The spike pins are available in the Runners' lab webshop. Do your spikes have fixed pins? Than it's unfortunately not possible to remove a pin.
