Trail walking shoes vs the traditional hiking shoes

When you prefer a comfortable shoe for your hikes in nature, you better choose a trail walking shoe. The biggest diference with the traditional brown and heavy hiking boots, is the weight. Trail walking shoes are less heavy and robust, which makes them easier to walk with. Especially for longer distances, it's a real advantage. Plus, trail walking shoes offer more cushioning, what reduces the impact on your muscles and bones. Lastly, trail walking shoes offer more grip and stability on every surface.

When you think of walking, do the typical brown, heavy hiking boots come in mind? We would like to correct that misunderstanding. As long as you don't seek the high mountains, you are better off with active walking shoes. These are durable shoes that provides comfortable cushioning and optimal comfort. They are lighter than hiking boots and thus much more comfortable to walk with.

A water-repellent shoe - with GORE-TEX - protects your feet from wet conditions in rainy weather. A downside is that these shoes are less breathable due to the water-repellent layer. Nowadays, many shoes comes with the GORE-TEX Invisible which offers some breathability, keep your feet cooler in warm weather.

Road walking shoes: we take the typical Dodentocht walker as an example, but citytrippers or recreational walkers fall into this category, too. In short: walkers who cover kilometers on asphalt and therefore expect a comfortable cushioning and durable outsole. The high-quality midsole and wear-resistant rubber outsole meet these expectations.

Trail walking shoes: lovers of off-road paths and forest trails are best off with an active walking shoe that provides enough traction. This way, you stay steady on your feet in mud or on uneven surfaces.

Mid walking shoes: mid walking shoes have a higher cut around the ankle for extra support and stability. They also protect your ankles form puddles or sharp branches.
