What is bone conduction?
Listen to your music with bone conduction
Are you looking for wireless running headphones? We can recommend a pair with bone conduction. With bone conduction, the earbuds don't go in your ears, bur they rest on your ears. Still, you'll experience crystal-clear sound, giving you optimal audio quality, even while running. At the same time, you're more safe on the road, since you remain aware of the surrounding sounds.
How does bone conduction work?
Sound consist of vibrations. When we perceive a sound, those vibrations reach the inner part of our ear through our cheekbones. A regular headphone transmits the vibrations - and therefore the sound - by means of speakers. These sit in or over your ears and reach the eardrum. The vibrations then continue on to the inner ear.
But with bone conduction, it works differently. Because the earbuds don't sit in, but on your ears, the vibrations don't pass through your eardum first. instead, they go directly to the inner ear via the cheekbones. That ensures a clear sound reproduction, even in noisy environments.
The benefits of bone conduction
- You can hear surrounding sounds. Running, walking or cycling on the public roads require some alertness. With bone conduction headphoones, you can enjoy your favorite songs or podcasts while still moving through the streets safely and with awareness.
- Comfortable fit without irritations. Because these headphones sit on your ears, they avoid many common irritations you might experience with normal headphones. They don't fall out, don't put pressure on your ears, and don't have an annoying cable swinging around while you run.
- Clear sound. The special technologies in these bone conduction headphones - in particular Shokz or Suunto headphones - direct the sound waves in such a way that you can enjoy the sound optimally.
