Sound mind, sound body. That’s the slogan of ASICS. ‘Anima Sana In Corpore Sano’, that’s what the acronym stands for. It’s clear that ASICS places great emphasis on mental well-being, serenity, and balance. The brand strongly believes in the positive effects of physical activity and fitness.
The company was found in Japan in 1949 under the original name Onitsuka Co., Ltd. Mister Onitsuka initially focused on the production of basketball shoes. In 1977, following the merger of three companies, the business became ASICS. This also marked the shift towards running shoes.
The development of GEL™ technology
In 1986, ASICS developed its GEL™ technology, although it became popular in the 1990s. The technology gained recognition for its cushioning and supportive properties. Today, it’s featured in running shoes such as the GEL-KAYANO™, GT-2000™, and GEL-NIMBUS™.
Women-specific fit
ASICS was one of the first brands to develop gender-specific models, designed to better match the anatomy and fit of the female foot.
